The streetlights flickered softly
Like that driftwood campfire in 2006
The blue and green fluorescent lights
On the corner of commercial road
Replaced the salt in the air
And the sound of the ocean
Like conch shells but mellow

I caught at the frayed ends
Of my raggedy blue sweater
And hummed into your arm
My lips soft against your solid warmth
And let you squeeze the cold
Out of my shivering body
Like a slick wet puppy
Squirming under you

Nipping at your shoulder
I’m wrestling like a puppy in your hands
And suddenly I want nothing more
Than to curl up on your chest
Tail tucked under
Listening to your steady heart-beat
More constant than the waves of the sea
And these dimming streetlights
